DANIEL WEISMAN, TENOR
Biography
Young tenor Daniel Weisman has earned recognition for his stage versatility, unique lyricism, and directorial savvy. Mr. Weisman began the 2017-2018 season with performances as the stage director for Capitol City Opera's Rising Stars showcase. In December of 2017, he made his company debut with The Masterworks Chorale, singing the tenor solos in Handel's Christmas Portion of Messiah. Rounding out his season, he assistant directed and choreographed Capitol City Opera's production of La traviata and was a featured soloist in Opera on Tap Atlanta's concert performance.
During the 2016-2017 season, Mr. Weisman made role and company debuts with Capitol City Opera as Sancho in their mainstage production of Man of La Mancha. He joined the Janiec Opera Company as a Young Artist in 2017, making a role debut as Don Curzio in Dean Anthony's production of Le nozze di Figaro and reprising his role as Daniel Buchanan in Dean Anthony's production of Street Scene. He made his stage directing debut in 2016 as the stage director for small opera company's inaugural performance of Così fan tutte. Mr Weisman returned to Harrower Opera Workshop later that summer, where he sang the role of the Magician in The Consul while serving as program coordinator and assistant to Carroll Freeman. Previously, Mr. Weisman sang the roles of Flute (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Dr. Caius (Falstaff), Valzacchi (Der Rosenkavalier), and Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro) all as a Young Artist at Harrower. Ending his 2015-2016 season, Mr. Weisman joined Red River Lyric Opera to sing the role of Little Bat in Susannah.
Mr. Weisman received a Bachelor of Music in Voice and a Bachelor of Music in Choral/General Music Education from the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University where he performed Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi and Donald Hopewell in Gallantry before continuing his education as a Young Artist with Solon Center For the Arts' Opera initiative as Giuseppe in La traviata while also covering Gastone and Alfredo in the same production, and with Nightingale Opera Theatre, where he covered Daniel Buchanan in Street Scene and helped prepare the children's chorus for Hansel and Gretel. He received a Master of Music in Voice from Georgia State University where he appeared as Monostatos in The Magic Flute and The Witch in Hansel and Gretel.
In the 2018-2019 season, Mr. Weisman had made his company debut with Art Song Collective in Richmond, Kentucky, as a featured soloist in Capitol City Opera’s On The Light Side Bernstein Celebration, where he was featured in scenes from Trouble in Tahiti, West Side Story, and more. He will continue the season with a company debut as the Assistant Director for Peach State Opera’s touring production of La bohème and then in The Atlanta Opera’s productions of Dead Man Walking and La traviata while also assisting with Capitol City Opera’s productions of Gianni Schicchi and Michael Ching’s Buoso’s Ghost. As a co-manager of Opera on Tap Atlanta, Mr. Weisman will be featured in many of their upcoming showcases, which can be found on operaontap.org/atlanta.
